Age 15. Family are still living in Redmile. Father is architect’s clerk of works, mother a grocer shopkeeper and Jessie M. Simpson a grocer’s assistant.

Family had moved to Radcliffe on Trent and were living at Grosvenor Villas, Bingham Rd. Philip working as a joiner. Sister Sarah, age 28, was working as a daily governess.
