JOSEPH RODGERS BREWITT 1897–1977

Born 29 September 1897 in Bassingfield, Nottinghamshire.

Baptised St Peter’s Church, East Bridgford on 5 December 1897.

Married 1919 to Rebecca Naylor in Newark and had seven children: Eric born 1920, Violet born 1921, Albert born 1923, John born 1927, Gladys born 1928, Wilfred born 1932 and Margaret born 1933.

Died 1977 at Newark, Nottinghamshire.

Brother of John, who was killed in action in 1917.

1901 Census

Age 3, living in East Bridgford with mother Elizabeth, née Rodgers, brother John 6, sister, Annie 6 months and paternal aunt Susan Brewitt 12. His father, James William Brewitt, was living with his uncle William Pike in Holme Pierrepont.

1911 Census

Age 13 living on Holme Lane, Holme Pierrepont, with father James William 38, farm labourer, mother Elizabeth 37,  brothers, Albert 9 and Ernest 6, and three sisters, Annie, and twins Susie and Alice 3. Joseph was still attending school. They live next door to William Pike, who is Joseph’s great uncle and William’s wife, Jane.
