Age 5 living with father William, a groom (domestic) at Holme Pierrepont Hall, mother Agnes born in Cartmel, Lancashire, sisters Mary Ann, 16 and Olive 11, brothers George, 13 a farm boy, William 9, Fred 7, Herbert 3 and Sam 1. Living on Main Road, Radcliffe on Trent.

Age 15 living with father William, 49 a domestic chauffeur (Dr Campbell), mother Agnes, 48, sisters Mary Ann 26 a chemical packer (Boots), Olive 21 a blouse machinist, Eleanor May 8 at school and Marjorie Annie 5 at school, and brothers William 19 a bricklayer, Fred 17 a nurseryman labourer, Herbert 13 an errand boy (grocers) and Sam at school. All living in a 6 roomed house on Bailey Lane, Radcliffe on Trent. He was employed as a butcher’s apprentice.

He received a pension of 14 shillings (70p) per week from 22 July 1920 until 26 October 1920.

It is very likely that Harold Flower was in the regular army in view of the date of his entry to France, rank and receiving the 1914 Star. The majority who received the 1914 Star were men of the pre-war British army and it was only awarded to those who served between the outbreak of war and November 22nd 1914. Clasp and roses was awarded to those who operated within range of enemy artillery. No official service record currently available apart from Medal Rolls Index Cards.
