Before the war

In the 1881 census she was three years old and living at 10 Annesley Grove, Nottingham with her father Thomas, age forty-four, a bookbinder employing four boys, mother Mary and her grandmother Lucretia Hill.

In 1891 age thirteen she was still living at 10 Annesley Grove, Nottingham.with her father who was a paper dealer and general labourer, mother and grandmother.

In 1901 age twenty-three Lucretia was still living with her parents at 10 Annesley Grove.

Lucretia commenced duties as a certified teacher at Radcliffe on Trent village school in December 1910.

In 1911, age thirty-three, she was employed as an assistant teacher and living with her mother Mary who was now described as a paper dealer and machine ruler. Lucretia’s father had died on 13 February 1906.

The school log book shows she had time off work due to her mother being ill in February 1912. On 24th February 1912 the school receive a medical certificate from Lucretia’s doctor confirming that she was suffering from mumps and Helen Packwood was transferred from the infants section to take over Lucretia’s classes. An outbreak of mumps at the school followed in March. She returned to work on March 11th. Lucretia took more time off work when her mother was ill in September 1913. Her mother died on 17th September and she returned to work on 24th September 1913.

During the war

Employed as a teacher at Radcliffe on Trent village school where she taught singing amongst other subjects.

Household: boarders Caroline Mayall and her mother, Mary Clay

After the war

She continued to live at the family home, 10 Annesley Grove, Nottingham and in 1939 she was recorded as a retired school teacher living with four other ladies of a similar age at that address.

Lucretia died on 29th January 1950, age seventy two. In her will she left probate to Caroline Mayall, a spinster who was one of the ladies recorded on the 1939 register as living with her. She left effects of £630.2s.5d.
