GEORGE WRIGHT 1877-1930

Born 1877 in Lincoln.

Married 1909 to Edith Annie Edwards, Bingham district.

Children: Ruth born 1899, Alice born 1907, John William born 9 January 1909, all born in Radcliffe on Trent with surname Edwards, George C born 23 July 1913 in Grantham, Lincs and Emily A V born 12 March 1916 in Radcliffe on Trent.

Died 1930 in Grantham.

It has not been possible to trace George’s parents or where the family was living prior to 1911. There are too many George Wrights in Lincoln to be able to identify him before then.

George’s wife Edith Annie Edwards was born in Exton, Rutland on 22 September 1878 and was living there with her parents John and Annie and her siblings in 1881 and 1891. In 1901 she was living at Green’s Barn, Radcliffe on Trent with father John, an agricultural labourer, mother Annie and her siblings. One year old Ruth Wright was also living with the family and recorded as John’s niece, but was possibly Edith’s daughter. William Wright, twenty-five, was a visitor. Edith (surname Edwards) and sisters Ellen, Martha and Lucy were domestic servants.

1911 Census

George was living at 66 Brewery Hill, Grantham with wife Edith Wright, daughters Ruth Edwards, eleven, Alice Edwards, four, and son John William Edwards, two. George was a postman.

Edith’s father John died in 1903 and in 1911 her widowed mother Annie was living on Ogles Yard, Radcliffe on Trent.  Annie had listed daughters Martha, Edith and Lucy as present in the household but these entries were crossed through and marked ‘away’. Possibly Edith spent time in both households.
