Age two, living at 5 Lenton Street, Nottingham with father Henry, twenty-seven, ironmonger’s porter, mother Zillah (née Clarke) twenty-two and brother Samuel, seven months old.

1891 Census

Age 12 living at 51 Dane Street, St Anne’s,  Nottingham with father Henry, ironmongers assistant, born Radcliffe, and mother Zillah née Clarke, born Radcliffe on Trent, brothers Samuel and William Brewster 6, who also served in the military, and George 4 who served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Age 22, a clerk, living with father Henry, a clerk, and mother Zillah at Cooper Street, St Ann’s,Nottingham, brothers  Samuel a cabinet maker, William  a messenger and George 14 an office boy.

1911 Census

Age thirty-two living at ‘Hillside’, Park Road, Chilwell with his wife Florence and children Florence, two and Charles, ten months. He had his own company manufacturing cardboard boxes for the lace trade.

Other information

His brother George emigrated to Canada with his family in 1913. He fought in the war with the 2nd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force with the rank of Lance Sergeant; he was injured at Vimy Ridge on 12th March 1917. A third of his leg was amputated in France, however when he was invalided back to Canada the remaining section of his leg up to the thigh was removed and he was provided with an artificial limb and a 75% disability pension.
