Age twenty-six, a clerk for Nottingham City Corporation, living at 74 Dryden Street, Nottingham, with wife Edith, son Edwin John, two, father-in-law John R. Varney, a house and estate agent and mother-in-law Sarah Ann.
At a later date he was employed at Notts County Asylum (Saxondale); he is listed in their records as a temporary attendant who left to serve in the Armed Forces in the Royal Army Medical Corps in WW1.
