Age one and living with father John, twenty-seven, a clothier’s assistant and mother Ellen Hyde, twenty-six at 21 Hudson Street, Nottingham.

1901 Census

Age eleven living with parents at 20 Lamartine Street, Nottingham. His father, John Toyne Hyde was manager of a gentleman’s outfitter.

1911 Census

Age twenty-one living alone at 2 Berkeley Street, Nottingham, working as a clothier manager.

His widow received a pension of 13 shillings 9d (69p) and his children 5 shillings 10d (29p) from the war office as from 9.8.1919. It is not clear from his war record if he served abroad – record is hard to read. No record found for medals. Silver War Badge issued.

Forces War Records state Service number 306477 and that he was the only son of Mrs Ellen Hyde of Sydney Grove.

Described by Gil Elwin in Radcliffe Remembers  as ‘an active, pleasant, clean-shaven man’.

Probate granted to his wife in 1920.

His widow, Adeliza and their two daughters emigrated to Canada in 1924, with financial assistance from the Government. Adeliza’s parents, Henry and Annie, and brothers, William and Henry, were already living in Edmonton, Alberta. Adeliza married Samuel McClelland in 1929 and was living in 1963 in Calgary on the same road as daughter Desley and her husband Neil Cameron, a teacher.
